Summary[ | ]

To Live Forever guide is a guide about the To Live Forever achievement that can be earned in Permadeath mode.

Guide[ | ]

Permadeath mode is a very difficult mode that forces you to go through the hardships of Survival mode, with the threat that all of your progress is deleted upon death. This mode is meant for the most experienced players who want a true hardcore challenge. Are you ready for this challenge? If so, then keep on reading!

In Permadeath mode, the odds of spawning on a hazardous planet (see the different biomes) is much higher than in normal mode. The worst possible scenario is that you got put onto an extreme planet. Another bad possibility is that you get put onto a toxic planet or an irradiated planet, as these planets are more likely to spawn aggressive enemies. Another bad possibility is that you get put on a high security planet, in which Sentinel Drones will attack you on sight.

Scanner repair and usage[ | ]

Because of all these possibilities, the first thing you want to do is mine some minerals to get Ferrite Dust. This is extremely vital, as you need 75 to repair your scanner so that you can scan for Oxygen, Sodium, and your starship. (Note: If you spawn next to a cave, or you stumble upon one, you can enter it to escape the harsh elements. Just remember to check for Hazardous Flora, nearby toxins, and aggressive fauna.)

Once you repaired your scanner, you need to scan immediately. If your scanner detects Sodium-rich plants or Oxygen-rich plants, head for those first to recharge your Life Support and Hazard Protection. If you don't detect any, start heading towards your starship and rescan whenever your scanner recharges. Head for any Sodium or Oxygen plants you find. You can also create an Analysis Visor just in case you lose your starship's location.

Trip's Method:

If you are stuck dying at the start of a new game, First go underground. This will stop the environmental damage. Find Cobalt and Ferrite dust to make Ion Battery. This will recharge your Hazard Protection. Farming 50 Ion batteries before you start will make the very early stages bearable and stress free.

Starship[ | ]

If you have gotten to your starship without dying, you have gotten over the worst part of your Permadeath run! Now, you just need to repair your starship and you're set!

Repairing your starship is very self-explanatory, except for getting the Hermetic Seal. You need to broadcast your location using the Distress Beacon, then you need to head over to the building to get the Hermetic Seal you need. Before setting off, make sure you have plenty of Oxygen and Sodium, at least 100 will do. (Note: If you build the Terrain Manipulator and a storm occurs while you are trying to get your Hermetic Seal, you can just dig a hole and wait out the storm.)

When you head over to the building, make sure that you only loot the Cargo Drops that are in your path. Don't stray off course, lest you take too long and succumb to the elements. If you stocked up on Oxygen and Sodium, you should be fine. When sprinting, make sure that you slow down to a walk right before your stamina runs out so that you aren't slowed down. Don't use your Jetpack too much, as it will drain your life support.

Once you get your Hermetic Seal and repair your starship, follow the main storyline until you can construct the Hyperdrive and get your blueprint for Antimatter. This is self-explanatory, and if you are careful, you should be able to do it just fine.

Completing the Achievement[ | ]

Once you have a starship, you now are able to use the hyperdrive to warp from sector to sector. At the start of the game you are about 700,000 LY from the center of the galaxy.

Classic Method - Farming[ | ]

Now it is time to start farming some units, as you will need at least 3 million units to carry you to the Galaxy Centre.

The best strategies for unit farming in Permadeath are to either go to Plaques or Ancient Ruins (you can find these with Signal Booster - just input Navigation Data and scan for Artifacts), choose the option to Seek Knowledge of the Past, go to the historical location, dig up the Artifact Fragments for Ancient Keys and then open the Large Artifact Crate. You can also dig up Buried Technology Module for Salvaged Data which sell for 50,000 units each. (Note: Don't buy a new starship or any new technologies, as it isn't worth the time.)

Once you got your 3 million units, you are going to have to farm Nanite Clusters until you get at least 2,000. You can do this by doing Guild missions found in space stations. From then on, you are going to warp to different star systems so that you can purchase Hyperdrive Modules. Make sure that you only buy the S-Class modules - any other modules are a waste of space. Once you have four Hyperdrive Module installed, go ahead and start traveling towards the Galaxy Centre! Take the shortest route possible, and take as many Black Holes as you can.

From the last star system to the Galaxy Centre a fully fueled Hyperdrive is needed to make the final jump. After the cinematic ends, the To Live Forever achievement is awarded.

Shortcut Method - Portals[ | ]

Portals allow you to travel directly to a point in the galaxy using Glyphs to create a coordinate. Although Portals are not introduced until much later in the main quest, you can find a portal via alien structures. One way of getting glyphs is from Travellers at starbases.

To begin you will need to purchase some Alien Planetary Charts. Then look for a Traveller at a space station and when you give them Nanites they will provide you the location to their grave, which will provide you the first glyph allowing you to activate a Portal. Use Alien Planetary Charts until you find an Alien Monolith. The Alien Monolith, once the puzzle is completed, will provide you a location of a Portal.

You will need to accumulate 4 different types of elements to start a Portal. See Activating a Portal for the exact quantities necessary. You will also want to buy extra components to repair your ship after you exit the portal. When you reach the portal, use the first and only glyph you know as a coordinate to jump to. This coordinate should put you around 5,000 LY from the center of the galaxy. Once you are back into space, set the quest to Center of the Galaxy and proceed on a much shorter path to the center.[1]

Quest Method - Artemis[ | ]

Completing the Artemis quest line and choosing to switch galaxies will trigger the To Live Forever achievement.[2]This method still works as of the Endurance Update.

Take a Deep Breath[ | ]

If a Traveller succeeds in reaching the centre of the galaxy in Permadeath mode without having already done so in Survival mode, they will also be awarded the Take a Deep Breath achievement.
