Why Make This Recipe
- Healthier Than Frying—Fried dumplings taste great but require much more oil. A light coating is all you need for moist potstickers, so there’s no deep frying with all that oil and mess.
- Easy – Traditional steaming requires a lot of time and special equipment. When you air fry frozen dumplings, you just push a button and before you know it they are done.
- Fast – Go from frozen to fully cooked and on the table in under 10 minutes.

Ingredient Notes
- Potstickers – Look for these dumplings in the frozen food section of your local grocery store. As a bonus, they come in a variety of flavors. You can use Trader Joe’s Frozen Gyoza or any other brand of choice.
- Oil – Use the recommended oil as outlined in your air fryer manual. Next, use a cooking spray and generously coat the basket. This step ensures that the air-fried potstickers don’t dry out during the cooking process. Opt for a neutral oil, such as avocado oil.
What Are Potstickers?
Potstickers are Chinese-style dumplings filled with pork, cabbage, vegetable filling, and sometimes shrimp. These dumplings are fried on the bottom, steamed, and then pan-fried again. The result is a delicious, crispy exterior and a tender, juicy filling.
Potstickers have a variety of names, folks, so here goes: potstickers, wontons, gyoza, or dumplings. It is quite the name list. You might see any of these names when buying frozen potstickers it all depends on the brand. The differences between them are usually so subtle.

- Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F / 204 degrees C.
- Spray the air fryer basket with oil and lightly coat both sides of the potstickers.
- Place the frozen dumplings in an air fryer in a single layer so they cook evenly. You can also make multiple batches.
- Air fry for 7-9 minutes, turning the one layer over halfway through the cooking time until they are golden brown in color and warmed through. Then, add your favorite dipping sauce.
Expert Tips
- There is no need to thaw. Go straight from the freezer to the air fryer. What a win!
- Cook potstickers in a single layer. Don’t overlap or let them touch. Rather than cook a few batches, those soggy edges are not great.I see your fussy eaters.
- Coat lightly with oil to avoid drying out the exterior of the dumpling.
- Turn the potstickers over halfway through cooking. You’ll thank me later.

Delicious Variations
- Use Sesame Oil – If you usually use a neutral oil in your air fryer, try sesame oil when making potstickers. The flavor is lovely, and it will work just as well as regular oil.
- Add Dipping Sauces – Potstickers are definitely designed for dipping. So, here are some of our favorite options:
- Sweet and sour sauce
- Soy Sauce
- Sweet Chili Sauce
- Ponzu sauce
- Teriyaki Sauce
- Peanut Sauce
- Hot Chili Sauce
- Yum Yum Sauce
Prep And Storage
- Prep Ahead – No prep needed! Go from freezer to air fryer to table.
- Store – Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
- Reheat – Set the air fryer to 350 degrees F / 180 degrees C and reheat for 2 minutes, turning after 1 minute. If needed, cook for 1 additional minute.
- Freeze – I don’t recommend refreezing these potstickers after cooking as they have already been frozen.
FAQs
How Long To Cook Frozen Potstickers In Air Fry?
Air fryers can vary slightly in time and temperature, but you can air fry frozen dumplings in about 8 minutes! Flipping the potstickers will help them to crisp up on both sides. Flip them after about 4-5 minutes.
Can I Air Fry Potstickers Without Oil?
Yes! Oil helps the dumplings to get crispy without drying out. Without the oil, they will still be delicious but may not get as golden on the outside.
Why Are The Air Fried Frozen Dumplings Sticking To The Basket?
Gyoza can stick to the air fryer basket due to its doughy nature and high cooking heat.
To prevent sticking, follow these steps: Line the basket with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Create holes in the parchment or foil to allow for proper air circulation. For ease, you could also use pre-perforated parchment rounds or squares.
